I sat down with Dr. Lucy Obolensky to talk about her extensive experience in expedition medicine in diverse environments from desert, altitude, jungle and polar settings. Her work as an expedition medic has seen her involved in projects like BBC's Planet Earth and Netflix's One Planet. Lucy shared with us how a girl from the UK found herself doing expedition medicine; her professional highs and lows as well as what she learnt from them; the importance of mental health in her role; and great advice for women considering expedition medicine but also for those who perhaps had to put being an expedition medic to the side because of family responsibilities.
